Literature Text

All was quiet as the survivors were settled down for the night into the safe house they had found.  They were glad that they didn’t have to deal with “them” at the moment.  Most of the survivors were sleeping, except for two: Takashi and Saya.  They had decided to stay up keep watch.

“How much further do you think we have to go until we reach the convenience store, Saya?” questioned the leader of the group, glancing at the girl in question.  She was currently reconfiguring her weapon.

The pink-haired genius looked over Takashi before returning to her weapon. “I’m not sure, Takashi.  I just hope we’re close.”

She glanced back at him to see him nod in agreement.  She could see the pain and fear in his eyes, showing that even though they have been dealing with “them” for quite some time now he still did not like dealing with all of this.  She couldn’t blame her friend.  She and everyone else didn’t exactly enjoy the situation they were in.

“…I wish this would just end.”

“…We all do, Takashi,” replied Saya, putting her weapon down.  She then walked over to the boy. “This is like a nightmare that we can’t wake up from, but unfortunately it’s real and we have no choice but to deal with it.”

“Doesn’t make it any easier to deal with it though.”

Saya gently brought him into her arms and held him close.  He didn’t resist as he wrapped his own arms around her to return the hug.

“I know, Takashi.  As long as we work together we can get through this and I know you won’t let anything happen to us.  I won’t let anything happen to us either.”

She could feel him smile against her neck and she couldn’t help the blush that flooded her face.  He retracted from Saya, giving her the opportunity to see the smile.

“Thank you, Saya.  Your words really helped.”

“Y-You’re welcome, Takashi,” replied Saya, as she readjusted her fogged up glasses.  This caused Takashi to chuckle a bit. “D-Don’t laugh at me!”

“S-Sorry!  It’s just…you actually look really cute right now.”

Saya could have been mistaken for a tomato at the moment.  Instead of arguing back with the boy she had known since she was a child, she leaned into him, taking in his warmth.

“Never change, Takashi.  You’re our pillar.

“I won’t Saya.  I won’t.”

FIN

Month of Pink is getting spooky early this year.

I don’t like zombies and even though I have never read or watched Highschool of the Dead, I actually a little saddened that it will never finish.  R.I.P. Daisuke Satou.

As someone who's read and watched HotD, I think you did a pretty good job being true to the source and adding your own take to it.
